AMOSZINE INTERVIEWS: Andy Gibson
---------------------------------
@3
AZ: How did you first get into computing?
------------------------------------------
@1
I think it was when I first used a Speccy that I really took an interest
in computers. Playing Jet Set Willy for weeks on end with unlimited pokes
made me think I was coding !!!
Then I upgraded to a C64 and wrote a Data Base to store all my albums and
singles. Soon ran out of memory though !
@3
AZ: What prompted you to try and learn to program, and how difficult did
you first find it?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
@1
Believe it or not, it was Text Adventures that led me to want to learn to
program. I loved them and always wanted to write my own. My C64 was a
dream. I managed to write a pretty small basic adventure game on it, but
it wasn't any good as you could only type in a few commands.
@3AZ: What did you initially think of Amos compared to other languages
(if any)that you had used in the past?
--------------------------------------------------------------------
@1
Well to be perfectly honest I think Amos is great at what it can do. Talking
of which, my first game was written on CanDo - Anyone ever played SKID MARKS
POP QUIZ ? Yeah it was crap I know. The only other languages (if I can call
them languages) were HATRACK II (Text Adventure Creator) and good old SEUCK!
@3
AZ: What was your first complete program and how did you feel about it?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
@1
My first complete Amos Program was for a music demo that I had created.
I was like most people and got Amos on a coverdisk with no manual and had
to rely on the mags for help - needless to say my first attempts were crap!
@3
AZ: What do you think of Blitz Basic compared to Amos?
-------------------------------------------------------
@1What ? I didn't think swearing was allowed in AZ !!!
Seriously, I have never looked at Blitz at all ! Since reading the reviews
of it, I am not willing to spend £50 for a copy. After all, Amos Pro is
doing the job for me - so why change ?
@3AZ: What Amos commands do you find the most difficult to use, if any?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
@1
What's an Amos Command Steve ?
I don't think any of them have caused too much of a problem since Pro has
a great online help system to deal with them. I haven't ventured into the
world of Interface Language yet !
@5I used "Command" as a broad term, but if you want to be specific I will
ask, What Instructions/Functions/structures do you find....ect. Steve.
@3
AZ: What improvements or add-on's would you like to see in Amos?
-----------------------------------------------------------------
@1
I would really love to see an AGA extension for us A1200 users. Mainly so
that we could hopefully have better duel playfields set up in Amos.
Intuition is another one. But my prayers have been answered in that dept
probably by the time you read this. Costly add on though !
@3
AZ: How do you rate Amos Classic against Amos Pro?
---------------------------------------------------
@1
To be honest, I only used Classic Amos for about 2 months and then I bought
Pro. I wouldn't ever use anything else as it's far superior in all respects
- well except all the nasty bugs -
@3AZ: What do you think the future holds for Amos?
-------------------------------------------------
@1
It's more like what does Amos hold for the future ! With new extensions
being released and loads of disk mags, I think we will see a whole host of
new Amos programmers joining us soon. Especially since Pro was given away
on Format's coverdisk at Christmas. Here's to the future.
@3
AZ: Who, if any, are your favourite Amos coders?
-------------------------------------------------
@1
A guy called Steve Bye is one of my faves ! Seriously, I don't have a
personal favourite as I think anyone who codes in Amos is a top notch peep!
I have to say that I learned a lot from both Alan Carter and Brian Bell
who are a couple of very helpful chappies. Cheers guys.
@3
AZ: What advice would you give to someone just starting out with Amos?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
@1
Buy Amoszine and learn from the pro's ! If you got Amos on a coverdisk,
buy the manual coz you won't get very far without it - or will you ?
There are a couple of great Amos books out there too. Buy em.
@3AZ: Can you tell us about your latest project(s)?
--------------------------------------------------@1
Certainly. I have almost completed THE ULTIMATE QUIZ II which is a vast
improvement over Volume 1. It will use DATA disks for all its questions
and therefore each DATA disk will bring a whole new game. The code and
graffix are far superior to Volume 1 also. Well, I was still learning
to use Amos and didn't know too much about it all. Both will be available
from F1 LICENCEWARE in 1995 - maybe a review will follow in a future issue
of AZ. I am currently working on an update to DMC (Disk Mag Creator) for
an F1 release also. What else ? Well, AZ engine of course.
@3
AZ: Could you list all the programs you have released? be it PD or otherwise
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
@1SKID MARKS CANDO POP QUIZ Written with CanDo !!!
DMC (DISK MAG CREATOR) Very similar to Grapevine !
DMC (DISK MAG CREATOR) DELUXE More of the same - Registered Copy.
THE ULTIMATE QUIZ 1 Better than my Pop Quiz (F1 LICENCEWARE)
THE ULTIMATE QUIZ II Just about completed and ready for F1.
LOGIC PD CATALOGUE Catalogue Disk.
SEASOFT CATALOGUE Catalogue Disk - I don't know if they use it !
AMIGA WORLD CATALOGUE Catalogue Disk
NEXUS PRO CATALOGUE Catalogue Disk
ARTICLE TESTER To test out articles for AZ (coming soon)
@3AZ: What is the "Your dream Program" you would love to create?
---------------------------------------------------------------@1
Virtual Reality Sex !!! Need I say more ?
@3
AZ: Any comments about Amoszine?
----------------------------------
@1I'm saying nothing until I speak to a solicitor ! I suppose I would be
classed as biased if I were to say that I think it's the best Amos mag
doing the rounds. Maybe a bit more humour is needed as we all like to smile
when working with Amos ! I loved the Terminator Demo - fun fun fun !
As it stands, AZ has something for everyone from beginner to Pro.
@5I agree with that, we need more humour in AZ, offers anyone?
@3
AZ: What are your plans for the future concerning programming?
---------------------------------------------------------------@1
Apart from updating AZ and all the other catalogue disks, nothing planned !
I will just come up with an idea one day and get to work on it. I never
plan to release an arcade/platform game as I don't think that I would ever
get the time to complete it ! DATA disks for Quiz II will certainly be in
the pipeline during 1995.
@4
Ok!,bye for now............................Thank's Andy.
